What do we do?
Mr. Taylor and his Dirty Dixie Band is available for private parties, weddings, funerals, tailgates, community events, music events (festivals, etc.), gosh...just about anything! We are very passionate about this style of music and really enjoy sharing it with everyone.
Having a wedding reception soon? We love playing for weddings and what could be more unique than having a Dixieland jazz band at your reception?! We offer a musical experience that none of your guests will ever forget!
How long do you perform?
We have quite a bit of music. Traditionally, we play for 2 to 3 hours. That, of course, includes a break (or two) somewhere in there...Mr. Taylor's face would explode if he had to play the trumpet that long; AND we're pretty sure Gennie has a limit with his air supply on the tuba...though we haven't seen it yet...
What does your rate pay for?
The musician's time. This is how we all pay the bills...and with most of us being in school, the precious little time we spend outside of school is very valuable. That being said, with too high of a rate we'd never get hired! So we want to make sure it's worth it for you and the musicians. And hey, we're a live Dixieland jazz band...you can't just look in the yellow pages (or craigslist for those of you who don't know what the yellow pages are!) and hire out a Dixieland jazz band. Not to mention we're all experienced performers, who have spent years training to bring you a refined sound that all will enjoy...and while it may look easy, it's taken us many many years to make it look as such!
Can we request tunes?
We take all requests, we just don't play them. Just kidding! Of course you can request a tune! If it's one we've got in our bag-o-tricks, we will play it as many times as you would like.
Do you converse with the audience?
Absolutely. We're perfectly at home speaking to an audience between songs, or sitting off to the side and performing as background music. Requests like that are always welcome; please just let us know how you'd like us to set up and we'll take it from there! We do enjoy chatting between tunes, maybe telling a few jokes...it adds a little something special to the experience.
